Based on the classic, Amazing Grace, this piece for solo piano merges technique with artistry. Opening with the well known melody, the piece quickly descends into dissonance with arpeggiated diminished chords and minor settings of the melody to Amazing Grace. After more minor and diminished arpeggios, a contorted version of the Star Spangled Banner can be heard, before again descending into an angry chaos. At measure 62 a swing pattern appears, built around the notes F, D and Ab (a tritone away from D). The piece ends with an unresolved interval and the unfinished first line of the melody to Amazing Grace.
Written shortly after the election of President Donald Trump in 2024, this piece symbolizes the chaos, confusion, and disquiet in American society.
A solo piano piece based on the poem, Fog, by Carl Sandburg. Beginning with a haunting and lyrical introduction, the piece quickly descends into a driving sixteenth note pattern. The melody is made of triplets, juxaposted against the driving sixteenth notes. The music intensifies until finally coming to a quiet end.
